RCB gives businesses 30 days to stop using residential area
Illegal sale of fuel banned, notices issued to such establishments
RAWALPINDI/ISLAMABAD:
The Rawalpindi Cantonment Board has issued a warning to those who were using residential properties for commercial purposes to stop the practice within 30 days.
If businesses fail to meet the deadline, the Rawalpindi Cantonment Board (RCB) said that they will cancel the lease of such properties.
Moreover, the RCB has barred the illegal sale of fuels such as diesel and petrol in the cantonment and notices were issued to the owners of such establishments.
These decisions were taken by the RCB President Brigadier Shahzad Tanveer. The meeting was attended by elected representatives and Executive Officer Sibtain Reza.
The meeting deliberated on extending the tenure of temporary doctors and teachers. Moreover, it deliberated on and expanded the building plans of 113 residential and 12 commercial building and old grant lease cases.
To ensure better cleanliness in the cantonment, the board decided to employ compactors and tractor trolleys and award contracts in this regard.
The board also decided to remove billboards and hoardings in line with direction from the Supreme Court.
Illegal construction: RCB issues notice to 38 property owners
The board further decided to end the Rs15,000 additional commercialization fees. Instead, the board decided that they will demolish shops built on encroached state land. After flattening them, the cantonment board will build shops on this land and then rent them out.
Moreover, the board directed to auction shops in the plaza built on the site of Rex Cinema in Westridge.
The board turned down the proposal of shifting all licenced pushcart hawkers to the IJ Principal Road. Instead, the board decided to return their licence fees. It was further decided to reopen the Chohar school and the Siham school in their original position.
Faulty fuel pumps
Some fuel pumps in the federal capital have been found to be cheating their customers by putting in less fuel than what the gauge showed.
This was discovered after the Islamabad District Administration raided several filling stations in the federal capital following complaints filed on the Prime Minister’s Complaints Cell.
According to sources, hundreds of citizens had filed their complaints on the PM’s Complaints Portal after which the Islamabad deputy commissioner directed the Saddar assistant commissioner Saad Bin Asad to take immediate action.
The assistant commissioner inspected facilities at fuel pumps along Peshawar Road and discovered that some of them had faulty metres even though customers were charged standard rates.
Of those inspected, only three petrol pumps had accurate gauges. Moreover, some filling stations were overcharging customers.
Taking immediate action, nine people were arrested and cases were registered against the management of these fuel pumps at the Tarnol Police Station.
Lay-out plans: RCB issues notices to 25 buildings
Meanwhile, Potohar Assistant Commissioner Mehreen Baloch took notice of complaints filed on the complaint portal and conducted a surprise raid on a tuck shop at the Daewoo bus terminal.
She discovered that products were being sold on inflated rates in excess of the government price list. The assistant commissioner fined the management of the tuck shop Rs10,000.
The assistant commissioner also inspected hygiene conditions at various hotels and noted that the situation at Mashallah Kabuli Pulao was extremely dismal. The authorities then sealed the hotel and arrested two employees.
Another hotel found to have poor hygiene conditions was fined Rs15,000.
