QUETTA:
The Pakistani authorities have constructed a separate corridor for women crossing the border at the Pakistan-Afghan Friendship Gate in Chaman.

“A separate corridor has been established on the Pakistani side of the Friendship Gate as women have been facing difficulties while crossing the border,” a senior security official said on Friday.

“Pakistan is providing more facilities to the Afghan travellers, including men and women, in the border area,” said the official. “A pushcart service has been arranged in the border area for shifting the travellers, who come to Pakistan for medical treatment.”

The Frontier Corps has also set up a medical centre at the border to provide immediate service in case of any untoward incident.

A modern scanning system has also been installed at the border for checking the people crossing into Pakistan from Afghanistan.

Another senior security official said, “We are extending maximum facilities at the border for both men and women travellers.”

He said the Pakistani side also constructed separate routes for vehicles importing and exporting goods and transit trade items.

However, the Afghan border authorities have not made any such arrangements on their side despite repeated contacts by Pakistani border officials and tribal elders.
