Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) has announced that the supply of re-gasified liquefied natural gas (RLNG) to the industries has been restricted as a vessel carrying LNG cargo of Pakistan State Oil (PSO) could not be berthed due to low tides.
"Relevant stakeholders are informed that the RLNG cargo of PSO could not be moored on January 17 owing to low tides," SNGPL said in a statement on Friday.
This had resulted in reduction in RLNG supplies from the Engro terminal earlier from 550 million cubic feet per day (mmcfd) to 225 mmcfd. The supply from the terminal was further reduced to 120 mmcfd on Thursday night as the cargo vessel could not be berthed by then.
Petroleum minister hints at building LNG storage
Thus, the total RLNG supply of around 1,000 mmcfd as on Thursday, including 420 mmcfd from the second LNG terminal, has gone down to 540 mmcfd. "This eventuality has led to the curtailment of RLNG supply to the industrial, fertiliser and CNG sectors. RLNG supply to the power sector has also been reduced," SNGPL said.
