Subsidy: Govt to announce Rs2.2b Ramazan package

Necessary commodities to be made available at reduced prices at utility stores across the country.

ISLAMABAD:

The federal government has decided to announce a Ramazan package to provide necessary commodities at reduced prices at utility stores across the country.

The package, which would cost Rs2.2 billion and would be launched at the end of July, was approved in a meeting chaired by Senior Federal Minister for Industries and Defence Production Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi.

Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid President Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain, Prime Minister’s Adviser for Industries Raja Basharat, Secretary Industries Aziz Ahmed Bilour, Additional Secretary Agha Nadeem and Utility Stores Corporation (USC) Managing Director Sultan Mehmood were present in the meeting.

Pervaiz Elahi asked USC managing director to provide more subsidy on daily-use commodities compared to last year and said the number of subsidised items should be increased to provide relief to people.

Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain underlined the need for ensuring availability of commodities to the people.

The USC managing director presented various schemes and recommendations to ensure maximum relief to the people under the Ramazan package.
