The first visual arts and design exhibition curated by students went on display at Alhamra Arts Gallery on Tuesday.
Besides the theses of final-year students at the Beaconhouse National University (BNU), it included portfolio works of first, second and third year students. The works included paintings, installations, models, sculptures, photographs, videos, textile designs and miniatures. Curator Zoya Siddiqi, a 2nd year student, said the exhibition was managed entirely by students. She said the experience would help students organise exhibitions of their works in future.
Amber Majeed, a member of the organising team, said her team was redefining how exhibitions were organised in the country. Architect Nayyar Ali Dada said he was surprised at the variety of themes explored by students in their works. He said the work displayed showed that arts in Pakistan were moving forward and that students were working on innovative ideas. The exhibition will end on June 16.
