January 21, 2019

Dawat.pk has been creating quite a buzz ever since they managed their first event. Since then, there’s been no looking back. We got in touch with Taha Memon (the main man behind Dawat) and his team, to talk about their inspiration, Dawat’s signature style and so much more

How did you begin your career in event management?

It all started from Red Maple which is a restaurant and lounge in Baltimore, USA. My job was to promote and host entertainment events at different lounges, from that moment onwards I wanted to open my own event management company.

Where do you draw inspiration from?

Inspiration is everything in this field! A lot of it comes from travelling, or laying by the beach, and at times just by sketching different stages before falling asleep at night.

Which event planner, international or local, are you most inspired by?

Alessandra Grillo would hands down be my favourite event planner. Her attention to detail is commendable!

What do you like most about your job?

It always keeps me on my toes, passionate about what I do, and makes each day into a new day. The nature of event planning is so pleasing because when you see your clients happy, everything seems to fall into place which motivates the Dawat family to keep making dreams come true.

What is most challenging about your job?

Since it’s an around the clock job, it gets challenging to maintain a certain level of balance between work and personal life. Especially during peak season, which means less time for family and friends.

How would you describe your event management style? How do you add your signature touch to each event?

I aim for imposing my style by captivating experiences in my work through colours, shapes, geometries from nature modeled into live creativity, turning it into a grand affair with elegance and sophistication. Our signature touch is definitely our long walk ways!

What has been your favorite work till date?

1. Comic-Con (entertainment)

2. Rain forest theme (wedding)

3. Rajasthani theme (mehndi)

4. Halloween/haunted house (festivals)

5. Wolf gang gardener (party)

What do you believe are some event themes that might be big hits in 2019?

The trend of keeping a wedding rustic and vintage is totally the new in! I am excited to design a theme that would cater to these two prospects.

What do you think makes a good event?

An event manager with a to-do attitude, cooperative bride and groom/clients, and sometimes a little bit of luck always helps!

Describe your style of work in three words.

Subtle, energetic and focused.

Is there anything exciting that you are working on at the moment that you can tell us about?

I’m working on a destination wedding for a client in Sri Lanka. My team and I are looking forward to the magic we would create for the couple.

What are your event planning/design goals?

I plan to play more with the contemporary table setting layouts, bring out creative designs and concepts with the practical aspect very much alive, and nevertheless always keep my clients happy!
