Police recover ‘abducted’ Nowshera postmaster

Claim he has confessed to disappearing on his own

NOWSHEHRA: Police in Nowshera have arrested a postmaster for allegedly faking an incident of being abducted and robbed of Rs2 million.

The postmaster has allegedly confessed to staging the incident while further investigations are underway.

Last week, the wife of the Spin Khak Post Master Rafiullah had registered a complaint with the Charsadda police that her husband had left for work as usual but did not return home in the evening.

The next day, she went to the post office to inquire about the whereabouts of her husband where she was told that he had he had gone to the bank to withdraw government fund for the post office.

However, he had gone missing after withdrawing around Rs2 million.

Convinced that someone had robbed her husband of the official funds and had abducted him, she filed a case with the police.

District Police Officer Captain (retired)  Mansoor Amaan took notice of a government officer getting abducted and formed an investigation team with DSP Kamal Hussain in the lead and comprising Station House Officer(SHO) Hanif Khan and Assistant Superintended (ASI) Aslam Khan to trace Khalil and the stolen money. The police investigated the case and traced the whereabouts of Rafiullah in Spin Khak area of Charsadda and arrested him.

During questioning, Rafiullah allegedly confessed that he had staged the drama of being looted and abducted so that he could pocket the Rs2 million.

He allegedly told that police that after withdrawing the sum from the bank, he disappeared on his own. He added that he planned to turn up at a police station after a while and tell them that he had been kidnapped and held captive but that he had managed to escape.

But before he could do that, the police managed to trace his whereabouts and arrested him.
