Police nab 1,205 criminals during targeted operations

DPO says crackdown against outlaws will continue without discrimination

During the month of December 2018, Bahawalpur Police arrested 1,205 criminals, including 159 wanted outlaws, from different areas of the region during targeted operations. The police also seized valuables worth millions of rupees from their custody.

While highlighting details,a police official told The Express Tribune that the district police registered a total of 825 cases and of them, 22 cases turned out to be false and were dismissed.

He revealed that 13 cases of murder and eight involving armed robberies were registered while 25 street criminals were arrested.

In a crackdown against professional criminals, at least 13 different gangs involved in different crimes were traced and busted. The police confiscated 13 pistols, 34 motorcycles and 47 cattle worth millions of rupees from the suspects.

Similarly, the police also launched a crackdown against those in possession of illegal weapons. During the operation, at least 53 criminals were apprehended while four rifles, five guns, 43 revolvers and pistols, one carbine and 204 rounds were taken into custody.

The district police also initiated action against drug dealers and arrested 107 criminals. The police seized 23 kilogrammes of hashish and 4,037 liters of liquor from them. It also sealed 23 active liquor brewing furnaces. Meanwhile, 73 gamblers were also rounded up during the said period.

While implementing the National Action Plan, 16 suspects were arrested for violating Loudspeaker Act and their cases were sent to courts.

During crackdown against wanted criminals, the police claimed to have nabbed 19 criminals in category A and 140 outlaws in category B.

Bahawalpur District Police Officer Ameer Taimoor Khan said that crackdown against professional criminals will continue and no one will be allowed to take the law into their hands. He added that the police was utilising all resources to combat terrorism and criminal activities in the region.

He maintained that it was the duty of the police to safeguard the lives and property of locals.
