Light rainfall is expected in Karachi and along the Makran Coast on Thursday, according to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD).

The met website says rain and thunder, with snowfall on the mountains, is expected in Malakand, Hazara, Peshawar, Mardan, Sargodha, Gujranwala, Faisalabad, Rawalpindi, Lahore divisions, Gilgit-Baltistan, Kashmir, Quetta, Zhob, Kohat, Bannu, and DI Khan divisions.

2018 monsoon turns out driest of 20 years

Karachi witnessed its driest monsoon season in two decades with nearly zero millimeters (mm) of precipitation recorded by PMD in 2018.

The absence of rainfall is a matter of concern for environmentalists as dry spells usually decrease underground water levels and raise the level of pollutants in the atmosphere. The Hub Dam, which supplies water to a large area of the city, is also likely to reach its dead level soon as there have not been enough rains to fill it.

The monsoon season in Pakistan starts in July and lasts till the middle of September.
