RAWALPINDI:

Police informed the Lahore High Court Rawalpindi on Monday that they had neither registered a criminal case against a man who went missing last September, nor he was in their custody.

The police submitted a written statement to the LHC bench on a petition filed by Murad Ali saying his father Noor Muhammed went missing soon after his release from Adiala jail in September last year. Adiala Jail Superintendent has already informed the court that the jail authorities had released the man along with six other suspects who were acquitted by a court on August 31, 2010.

Justice Khawaja Imtiaz Ahmed of the LHC’s Rawalpindi bench directed the petitioner to appear in the court on the next hearing, asking him to inform the court if he had received any information on his fathers’ whereabouts. The court would take up the petition after two weeks. Murad Ali has accused police of whisking away his father, Noor Mohammed, after he was acquitted. Making secretary interior, City Police Officer, Rawalpindi, Adiala Jail chief and Adiala police post in-charge as respondents, the petitioner had filed a petition through his lawyer Basharatullah Khan, against the alleged detention of his father, in September last year.
