ISLAMABAD:
An anti-terror court (ATC) on Thursday recorded testimonies of two witnesses and summoned additional prosecution witnesses at the next hearing of the Maulana Azam Tariq murder case.

During Thursday’s proceedings, three witnesses including Inspector Jamil, Sub-Inspector Mushtaq Ahmed and Constable Arshad appeared before the court to record their statements in the case. The

The court recorded the statements of two witnesses including Jamil and Arshad but the prosecution did not record the statement of SI Mushtaq Ahmed.

The ATC expressed its anger over the failure of producing case record and asked for producing it at the date hearing. The court warned that a first information report (FIR) will be registered against the investigation officer if he fails to present the records.

Some 13 suspects had been booked by the Islamabad Police in the murder of Maulana Tariq, who was gunned down by assailants in 2003 within the remits of the Golra police.

It is worth mentioning that prosecution has already filed an appeal in the Islamabad High Court (IHC) challenging the acquittal of Sibtain Kazmi of murder charges in the case.

The state counsel had contended before the IHC bench that the trial court had not completed all the legal requirements in deciding the murder case against Kazmi. The case was adjourned till January 17.
