Inter-madrassah cricket tournament kicks off in Rawalpindi

The tournament is part of efforts to bring madrassah students into the national mainstream

RAWALPINDI: The first inter-madrassah tap-ball cricket tournament kicked off in Rawalpindi on Thursday in an effort to bring madrassah students into the national mainstream.

The tournament – being played on Muslim School Cricket Ground – has been organized by the Rawalpindi Sports Department.

According to organisers, a dozen teams from the madrassahs of the twin cities of Rawalpindi and Islamabad are participating in the tournament.

District Sports Officer Abdul Waheed Babar inaugurated the tournament on Thursday. On the first day, four madrassahs – Anwaarul Uloom, Tahmeerul Quran, Jamia Furqania and Madrassah Mahaz Bin Jabal played their matches.

The first match was played between Jamia Furqania and Anwaarul Uloom. Batting first, Anwaarul Uloom put up 113 runs on the scoreboard, with Asif Bilal scoring the maiden 50 of the innings.



Chasing the total, Jamia Furqania were all out for just 52, handing an easy win to Anwaarul Uloom.

Similarly, Madrassahs Tahmeerul Quran, Tahleem Abrar, and Mahaz Bin Jabal won their matches. The remaining matches and the final will play on Friday, where Additional Commissioner Tariq Saleh Marwat would be the chief guest.
