The six Rangers are Shahid Zafar, Muhammad Afzal, Liaquat, Muhammad Tariq, Bahar and Minthar Ali.

No review petition on removal of DG Rangers, IG Sindh

The Government of Sindh has deferred its decision to file a review petition against the Supreme Court order of transferring Director General (DG) Rangers and Inspector General (IG) of Police Sindh during the suo motu proceedings on the murder of Shah.

Sindh Advocate General, Abdul Fateh Malik said DG Rangers and the IG were federal employees and the provincial cannot file a petition involving them.

He said that the federal government must file a petition so that the Supreme Court can review its decision.

No review petition from federal government

Attorney General of Pakistan, Maulvi Anwarul Haq has said that the law does not allow a review of a suo motu notice. He clarified that the federal government will not file a review petition in court as there are no parties in suo motu cases.

Haq advised DG Rangers and IG Sindh to file a review petition themselves.

The attorney general said directives of the court would be implemented.

The Supreme Court on Friday had ordered the transfer of both officials, noting that they both were negligent in handling the case.

A five-member bench presided by Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry had ordered that a notification for their removal be sent within three days, failing which the perks of both the officials would be ceased.

Sindh Minister for Law and Parliamentary Affairs Ayaz Soomro had said the provincial government would file a petition to review the decision.

The Sindh government had taken the stance that it is attempting to save both the officers on the grounds that senior officers cannot be held accountable and punished for the wrongdoing of their subordinates.

Security forces shot dead Shah, 22, at a public park in Karachi accusing him of robbery, but his family has demanded justice, insisting he was an innocent student passing the time of day.
