Gas explosion: Three coal miners killed

Blast occurred as a result of poor ventilation and accumulation of poisonous gases, sources said.

Three miners died in an explosion triggered by accumulation of toxic gas inside a coalmine in Spin Karez area, about 35 kilometers from Quetta on late Sunday night.



According to sources, the miners were working inside the coalmine owned by Hazara coal company when there was a sudden explosion as a result of which a fire broke out and all the three miners were trapped inside.

The rescue operation began soon afterwards and the bodies of the miners were recovered in a few hours.

Two of the deceased were identified as Nazeer Ahmed and Haji Gul who were residents of Swat and Paind Khan respectively. The third person was said to be a resident of Quetta. The bodies of Nazir and Haji Gul have been sent to their homes for burial.
