'Takht' is the same as 'Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham' at its core: Ranveer Singh
The film, based on the Mughal era, will feature a star-studded cast
Ranveer Singh has had quite a year. With tying the knot with the love of his life, Bollywood starlet Deepika Padukone, to delivering box-office hits - Padmaavat and Simmba - the acclaimed star is now gearing up for more next year.
Singh has already been roped in for Karan Johar's next directorial Takht. The film, based on the Mughal era, will feature a star-studded cast with the likes of Kareena Kapoor Khan, Vicky Kaushal, Alia Bhatt, Anil Kapoor, Janhvi Kapoor and Bhumi Pednekar in pivotal roles.
Talking about the director of the upcoming drama, Johar, the Befikre star told Deccan Chronicle, “He is a lighthearted man in his demeanor, but behind that, he is a serious and passionate film-maker."
Much contrary to his previous rom-coms, Johar's Takht will revolve around two warring brothers. And Singh believes the film somewhat changed the film-maker.
"Here Karan was offering me a film and there’s something different about him. His eyes are different; his body language is different, and his voice is different. I saw a different side of Karan that was a complete revelation to me. There was just this sheer great desire to make this film,” reveals the actor. “I have always regarded him as a creative force of nature. He is a writer, director, producer, actor and he’s so multifaceted and a genius. I always wanted to be directed by him.”
Talking about how Johar's blockbuster, Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham and Takht are similar, as the director once said, Singh said, “People don’t understand that K3G is a family film and it’s about internal dynamics of family and Takht is same at its core."
"What period it’s set in? And what costumes they are wearing? The world is just a decoration. At the core, it’s a family drama about love, greed, ambition, betrayal, brotherhood, and dynamics between father, son, brothers, and sisters all this compiles the essence of the story,” added the actor.
And Singh, for one, cannot wait to get started!
“The story is on such delicious scale and there’s so much meat in it. It’s going to be special because he has a stellar cast. I have worked with Alia and Anil Kapoor before," added the Bajirao Mastani star.
"Vicky is somebody whom I wanted to collaborate with; Kareena is someone who I am crazy about, and Janhvi is so promising and also someone who I am keen to work with. Moreover, Bhumi took my auditions in Band Bajaa Baraat and now she is working in this film. It’s crazy and this is damn exciting.”
