PESHAWAR: All schools in the militancy-hit North Waziristan tribal district will be reopened after they were rebuilt and rehabilitated by the military.

This was stated by Adviser to the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) Chief Minister (CM) for Elementary and Secondary Education Ziaullah Bangash on Sunday after he visited the North Waziristan Tribal District on Sunday.

According to a statement issued by his spokesperson, Bangash met with the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 7 Division Major-General Mumtaz Hussain and discussed issues in the education sector. Maj-Gen Hussain told Bangash that all educational institutions in the North Waziristan tribal district have been restored and that hundreds of students are getting an education in the army schools for free.

While addressing a gathering of tribal elders, Bangash said that the provincial government will open additional educational institutions in the tribal districts apart from strengthening existing institutions.

He said terrorism and extremism can be controlled only through education and announced to shift the district education offices to the respective tribal districts.

The adviser further said that vacant posts of teachers in the tribal districts will be filled soon with a recruitment process already underway. Disciplinary action will be taken against those teachers who are found truant during duty hours.

He also announced to upgrade the Dosali Government High School.

Moreover, Bangash said that a girls’ high school will be made functional in the tribal district in April after which the girls of the area will be able to get higher education at their doorsteps. The number of secondary schools in the militancy-hit district will also be increased.

North Waziristan Deputy Commissioner Abdul Nasir Khan told Bangash about the problems faced by the education sector in the district and the steps taken to improve the situation.
