Fog, speeding claim 11 lives in DG Khan

Police say victims include four women and five children

At least 11 people, including four women and five children, died while four others sustained injuries in two separate accidents on Indus Highway in Bakhsha Pur, Rajanpur on Sunday.

In the first incident, a car and a truck collided, killing nine people on the spot. The deceased were identified as Kifayat, four women named Gulshar, Shabira Mai, Nazeera Mai, Dadli Khatoon, and four children including Rehana Bibi, 10, Shazia Bibi, 10, Suhana, 9, and Rizwana, 7. The bodies were shifted to a nearby hospital. Police said that the accident occurred due to fog and speeding.

Meanwhile, a man and a two-year-old child died while four others were injured when a car and a mini truck collided on Indus Highway. The deceased were identified as Asif and two-year-old Abdul Hanan while Ahmed Bilal, Sameen Fatima, Samra Bibi, and Sabiha were seriously injured in the incident. After receiving information of the accident, rescue teams and police reached the spot and shifted the injured and the deceased to a nearby hospital.

Police said that the number of accidents on the highway is increasing due to heavy traffic and a one-way road. They added that due to the closure of Head Panjand Alipur because of constrcution, heavy traffic is being redirected to Indus Highway.


Punjab gripped by severe cold, fog

Two weeks ago, nine people lost their lives while 26 others suffered injuries when a bus hit a tree in Rajanpur.

Police said that a passenger coach was on its way to Swat from Karachi. When it reached Bangla Dhegan on Indus Highway, the driver lost control of the vehicle as he was speeding and hit a tree. Four passengers were killed on the spot, while 26 others were injured. Later, five others died during treatment.

Soon after the incident, rescue workers and police reached the spot and started a rescue operation. Some of the deceased were identified as 42-year-old Abdul Razzaq, 25-year-old Nazimullah, Abdul Basit and 35-year-old Alamgir. The victims were shifted to District Headquarter Hospital Rajanpur for treatment and legal formalities.
