Transitions: Sindhi poet Mansoor Malik passes away

At the age of 59, Mansoor Malik passes away of a heart attack.

Renowned Sindhi poet, writer and anaesthetist, Dr Abdul Qayum Malik aka Mansoor Malik passed away of a heart attack in Karachi on Sunday night at the age of 59 and was laid to rest at his hometown of Padidan on Sunday.



He was born on March 25, 1952. He went to school in his village and completed an MBBS at the Liaquat Medical College at Jamshoro in 1978. He went on to get his PhD in Anaesthesia from Tashkent in 1985 and remained there for six years. He retired in 2007.

Malik won many awards for his work which mostly centred on the theme of humanism. Ashok Kumar Arora, one of his close friends, told The Express Tribune that as Malik had loved Mansur al-Hallaj he chose the name Mansoor as his penname. Malik leaves behind two sons, a daughter, his wife and grandchildren. His soyem will be held at his home in Padidan on Tuesday.
