Over 1.15m vehicles booked on M9, National Highway

Most of them were booked on Karachi-Hyderabad Motorway

HYDERABAD: Reflecting the prevalence of a high number of traffic violations on the highways in Sindh, the South Sector III of National Highway and Motorway Police (NH&MP) booked over 1.15 million vehicles this year on the M-9 Motorway and the National Highway. The spokesperson of NH&MP sector III, Naeem Siddiqui, informed on Friday that around Rs440m was collected in fines in 2018.

A majority of the vehicles were booked on the Karachi-Hyderabad Motorway which is completely covered by the NH&MP through beats 33 Jamshoro, 34 Nooriabad and 35 Karachi. The largest number of vehicles, 323567, was penalised for lane violations followed by 158,205 for seat belts.
Another 82,165 faced the penalty for improper loading of goods, 65,569 for wrong overtakes, 32,893 motorcycle riders for not wearing helmets, 24,763 for over speeding, 16,680 for seating passengers in dangerous position and 7,096 for overloading goods, among others.
As many as 64,951 public service vehicles were also fined including 10,366 for seating passengers in dangerous position, 5,780 for wrong overtaking, 10,873 for careless driving, 1,911 for sharp overtaking and 36,021 miscellaneous breaches.
