KARACHI: The Clifton Police on Thursday arrested a couple from Defence, allegedly involved in stealing cars, car batteries and sound systems.

The police also seized weapons, two bullets, a stolen car with registration number ABN 681 and batteries from their possession.

Clifton SP Suhai Aziz said that the accused, Shoaib Ahmed alias Ali, son of Faiz Muhammad, and his wife Saeeda Salma Zehra, were arrested in an operation in Phase II extension commercial street number 2.

The SP said that Ahmed had completed intermediate level education while Zehra was a graduate of the University of Karachi with a bachelor's in commerce.

Mysterious case: Couple found dead in New Town

Both were affiliated with the media with Zehra also having worked in several private news channels as a news anchor. Aziz said that the couple sold the stolen items to pay for Ice drug. She added that they did not even have a house to live in, spent the nights on footpaths and in the morning began their search for Ice afresh.

Aziz said that the car they found had been stolen on December 20 from the Gizri Police Station jurisdiction. She added that police had traced the real number plate of the stolen car. The SP said that the police had identified three people who bought batteries from the couple and added that two cases had been registered against them.

After the press conference, Zehra denied the allegations imposed on her and questioned why she was being punished if her husband had committed the crime.
