‘Efforts afoot’ to protect livestock
Adviser to CM blames previous govt for lack of preparedness
QUETTA:
Adviser to Chief Minister on Livestock and Dairy Development Meetha Khan Kakar has said the provincial government is taking effective measures for the protection of livestock in the wake of long-lingering drought in the province.
Speaking to a delegation on Wednesday, the adviser said Balochistan has badly been affected by drought-like conditions owing to the absence of seasonal rains for the last half decade.
He slammed previous governments for their “negligence in dealing with the government institutions”. If adequate focus was placed on building institutional capacity then the government departments could have functioned properly today, he added.
Declining rainfall over the last six years has plunged the province into extreme drought-like conditions, Kakar said, adding that protection of livestock is necessary in the prevailing situation. The adviser said the government of Balochistan is serious in dealing with the situation. Therefore, steps were being taken to ensure protection of livestock in remote areas of the province, he added.
