Varsity rankings: UAF top, Arid University third amongst Pakistan’s varsities

Criteria for the ranking of universities includes campus setting, infrastructure, energy and climate change

The University of Agriculture Faisalabad, Mehran University of Engineering and Technology and the Pir Meher Ali Shah Arid University of Rawalpindi have been declared as the top three varsities of the country according to a ranking developed by Indonesian varsity UI Green Metric World Universities.

The criteria for the ranking of universities includes campus setting, infrastructure, energy and climate change, waste, water, transportation and education.

The University of Agriculture Faisalabad was ranked at 241 in the rankings while Mehran University was at 294 and arid university was at 302.

Pir Meher Ali Shah Arid Agriculture University of Rawalpindi (PMASAAU) had a total score of 5,000 as per UI Green Metric World Universities ranking.


PMASAU Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Sarwat Mirza appreciated the efforts and contribution of the varsity’s Green Office Director Shahid Ali Khan, and Higher Education Commission (HEC) Director Syed Naveed Hussain Shah for their role in sensitizing students regarding the protection of the environment.

He said that this was a great honour for his team that they have improved the university ranking from 341 out of 619 universities last year to 302 universities out of 719 this year.

After the establishment of the green office earlier this year, this was the first ranking they had participated in.

He further dilated the measures taken by the university’s green office such as reducing single-use plastic bags on campus, tree plantation and establishment of a nursery.
