PESHAWAR:
Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Minister for Local Government and Rural Development (LG&RD) Shahram Khan Tarakai has said that plastic bags are one of the largest causes of environmental pollution and its use was having a negative impact on the ecosystem.

Speaking to a delegation of the Public Health Association (PHA) on Monday, he assured that problems and hurdles in banning polythene bags will be removed to improve the environment.

During the meeting, the association gave Tarakai a detailed briefing on the damage caused by plastic on the environment and on the human life and society.

PHA ambassador for Plastic Pollution Control Dr Tauseef stated that plastic bags and wrappers pose a threat to the lives of birds and wildlife.

He said that apart from damaging wildlife, they also block drains.

The provincial minister stated that they will take all stakeholders on board for the elimination of this menace and to launch a campaign for the promotion of the alternative bags.
