The accountability court on Monday handed down a seven-year sentence to deposed prime minister Nawaz Sharif in Al-Azizia reference and acquitted him in the Flagship Investment reference.

Politicians and prominent figures, in the aftermath of the verdict, took to Twitter to remark over the ruling.

Pakistan Muslim League-N leader Maryam Nawaz, in a series of tweets, expressed solidarity with her father and opposed the accountability court's ruling.

Party leader Hina Parvez Butt tweeted that "since the day Nawaz Sharif left the office of the prime minister, the country has been engulfed in economic woes".

Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Riaz Ali Toori responded to Maryam's tweet and questioned if the country's law is only for the poor.

On the occasion, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leaders also tweeted following the verdict against the Sharifs.

Other prominent Twitterati also took to the microblogging site to comment on the verdict.
