LAHORE:
Punjab Assembly Speaker Chaudhry Parvez Elahi has said that the ‘silent diplomacy’ of Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa has played a very important and effective role in pulling Pakistan out of isolation at the international level.

Speaking to reporters here on Sunday, Elahi highlighted that the country was facing difficult situation at international level owing to coldness of even friendly countries for quite some time.

He said Pakistan’s bilateral relations with Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Iran had been soured. However, the army chief’s visits and meetings with the top leadership of these countries had greatly helped in restoring bilateral ties, he added.

In the last 17 years, the PML-Q leader underlined that General Qamar was the first army chief who visited Iran and met its top leadership, helping regaining mutual trust among the two neighbouring countries.

Elahi said sincere efforts of the army chief for peace in Afghanistan have borne fruits. “He (General Qamar) had visited Afghanistan four times and his efforts were being appreciated internationally.”

Responding to a question, he said that the army chief’s meetings with the top brass of China had helped restoring the emerging super power’s trust in Pakistan regarding China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC). Similarly, General Qamar’s visits to Turkey, Egypt and Qatar had brought back warmness in bilateral relations with these countries, he added.

Inauguration of Kartarpur Corridor, Elahi underscored, had exposed India's hostile propaganda against Pakistan and for the first time the Indian leadership appeared to be on the back foot on diplomatic front.

Services of General Qamar Javed Bajwa for national security and solidarity of Pakistan had become an important chapter of the country’s history and will always be remembered, he concluded.
