Bizenjo moves privilege motion in Senate
Senator says NAB has damaged his family’s reputation
ISLAMABAD:
Senator Hasil Bizenjo on Wednesday moved a privilege motion in the Senate, complaining of a media trial against him and his family by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB).
Speaking in the Senate, the National Party (NP) leader said the media had reported NAB as alleging that he and former chief minister Abdul Malik had acquired property worth billions of rupees in Punjab.
He said the names of his family members, including wife, daughter and nephews, were mentioned in the statement of NAB issued to the media, which had damaged the reputation of his family.
“I challenge the NAB, ISI, FIA to form a JIT against me and PTI can also constitute a committee for investigation,” he said.
Senate Deputy Chairman Saleem Mandviwala, who was presiding over the session, said he would examine the motion and give his ruling today (Thursday).

Leader of the House Shibli Faraz said the message from the House should not be that the senators were above accountability, however, a media trial should not be carried out.
Senator Raza Rabbani said that according to the rules, if any senator was summoned by any commission, authority or tribunal, the Senate chairman should be informed.
Mandviwala said the accountability watchdog had not given any intimation to the Senate chairman’s office.
Leader of the Opposition Raja Zafarul Haq said a special committee should be formed to look into the rules and laws and determine why NAB was not observing the rules of the Senate.
Senator Mushahidullah Khan said the opposition was facing discrimination in accountability and NAB had a different attitude towards the government members.
Faraz said NAB should continue the process of accountability as an independent institution. Senator Moula Bux Chandio said that Supreme Court had clearly observed that media trials should be stopped by NAB.
