Five suffer burns in transformer explosion in Lahore

One victim suffered 55% burns and his condition is stated to be critical

LAHORE: At least five people suffered burns when a transformer exploded in Royal Park area of Raiwind City on Sunday.

Police said the victims were sitting at a hotel when the transformer exploded. Soon after the incident, oil leakage started and fell on the victims.

According to an eye-witness, he was standing at a nearby shop when he heard a deafening sound. It was preceded by smoke and fire. Soon after he saw the victims lying and screaming for help.

Nearby people called police and rescue teams. They shifted the victims to Jinnah Hospital. Later, they were shifted to the burn unit of the hospital.

The victims were identified as Wilayat Khan, Mujahid, Bilal, Ahmad, and Khalid.

Wilayat received minor injuries and was discharged after initial treatment. Mujahid, Bilal, and Khalid suffered 20-30% of the burns. However, Ahmad's condition was stated to be critical as he had received 55% burn injuries.

A police team reached the spot, collected forensic evidence from the scene and recorded statements of the eye-witnesses. They said the cause of the incident has yet to be ascertained.

Meanwhile, a man died while another was injured when a speeding train ran over them in Badami Bagh.

Police said the train hit them when they were trying to cross railway tracks. One of the victims was identified as Manzil Shah. The deceased and injured were taken to a nearby hospital.
