Karan Johar slams 'delusional actors' and their salary demands
Film-maker revealed that some stars tend to think too big of themselves after their film stars doing well
Ace Bollywood film-maker Karan Johar isn't one to shy away from speaking his mind. Attending a recent panel discussion conducted by journalist Anupama Chopra, the director said he feels some actors have developed a case of swollen egos about their status in the industry.
Even at last year's discussion, Johar had talked about how some actors demanded high salaries but were unable to have successful film openings, reported Hindustan Times.
Karan Johar blames himself for Alia Bhatt’s weight loss obsession
"It is a disease. Everyone has it. Just because an actor delivered a couple of box office hits, they start believing they’re invincible," expressed Johar.
Chopra further explained the 'problem' stating that sometimes, the entourage, hair and makeup costs alone can go up to INR1 lac a day. Johar added, "They’re all crazy! Crazy, with a capital ‘C’. They’re cuckoo, many of them. Just because two of their films did well, suddenly it’s all me, myself and I."
The film-maker also pointed out that this is a flawed approach because every film has a different budget and actors should be careful not to mess with it. "It gets exhausting to sit in a monetary discussion with them because they’re delusional," Johar retorted.
According to Johar, celebrity managers are the biggest culprits behind this trend, adding that they are clueless about how the industry works. They just think, 'Oh, your film did well? Increase your price by INR50 million'."
Karan Johar left 'speechless' by Pakistani lookalike
Johar further said that films such as Bareilly Ki Barfi and Shubh Mangal Saavdhaan "cannot be made with the same budgets any more, because the actors will demand bigger salaries."
Lauding the work of some of the finest actors of Bollywood right now, he concluded, "All these wonderful actors - Rajkummar Rao and Ayushmann Khurrana and Vicky Kaushal - I hope they are solid and sensible about their monetary choices."
