ISLAMABAD: The Capital Development Authority (CDA) on Thursday was forced to call off its anti-encroachment operation, albeit temporarily, in Sector E-12 after affectees staged a protest.

The affectees met with CDA Member Estate Khushal Khan and requested that he postpone the operation.

Earlier, the CDA had decided to launch an operation in Sector E-12 to retrieve state land which had been illegally occupied by the encroachers. Notices had been issued to all illegal occupants of land in Sector E-12, including Dharik Mohri, Bhaikra Koh, Bhaikra Fateh Baksh, Bara Dari, Sari Saral and Golra to vacate its land by December 13.

But as officials from CDA’s enforcement division and the Islamabad District Administration, accompanied by a heavy police contingent, prepared to demolish the illegal constructions, around 2,000 villagers gathered at the site.
