Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi on Thursday lauded the efforts of the Kashmiri diaspora in raising the Kashmir dispute on international forums.

A four-member delegation of the Kashmir American Council called on FM Qureshi on Thursday, according to a Foreign Office statement.

He underscored the recent report by the United Nations Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) on occupied Kashmir.

The federal minister said that the United Nations recognises the gravity of the situation of human rights violations in the disputed territory.

He also condemned the deplorable human rights record of occupying forces in Indian occupied Kashmir (IoK).

The UN report calls to establish a Commission of Inquiry (CoI) to investigate the gross human rights violations.

FM Qureshi said that Islamabad has consistently called for a probe into the matter. He also reiterated Pakistan’s unflinching political, moral and diplomatic support to the just cause of Kashmiris for the right to self-determination.

He added that Pakistan seeks peaceful resolution of the Kashmir dispute in accordance with the wishes of its people.
