Two new schemes have been proposed to improve security arrangements for police buildings in Punjab at a cost of Rs20 million in the budget. Another Rs611 million has been allocated for the 75 ongoing schemes.
One of the new schemes includes security walls and iron fencing around the police buildings.
The second scheme includes construction of new traffic police lines in Manawan on GT Road. Rs100 million has been set aside for the construction of the police lines in Lahore.
The ongoing police schemes include construction and up-grading of roofs of barracks, roads and toilets for Qurban Lines; construction of boundary wall at Elite Police Training School Lahore; establishment of a canine unit at Bedian Road; construction of a boundary wall at Abbas lines on Bedian Road; construction of a boundary wall and installation of security lights around Qurban Lines; construction of Ravi Road, Masti Gate, Garden Town, Hanjarwal, Township and Garhi Shahu police stations; construction of CID Complex; and construction of district jails in Hafizabad and Narowal. Jails have been allocated Rs402 million for its 11 ongoing schemes, however, no new scheme has been introduced.
Ongoing schemes for jails include construction of family rooms at central jail; construction of high security prisons in southern Punjab; and provision of proper toilet facilities at all jails in the province.
No new scheme has been introduced for the Home Department. Rs632 million has been allocated for its seven ongoing schemes including the establishment of a Forensic Science Laboratory in Lahore.
The judiciary has been allocated Rs115 million for its three new schemes.
The new schemes are construction of women litigants’ shed in the civil and sessions courts; and construction of a boundary wall around civil and sessions court.
There is also a block allocation for new schemes at the Lahore High Court (LHC). For its 76 ongoing schemes, judiciary has been allocated Rs578 million.
These schemes include construction of judges’ houses for at the Lahore High Court’s Bahawalpur Bench; construction of a judicial complex at Lahore; preservation of the LHC old building; construction of an additional storey at Cantonment Kutchery in Lahore; construction of Bakhshi Khana at Model Town Courts in Lahore; and construction of a two-storey mosque at the LHC.
A new scheme has also been introduced for the Law and Parliamentary Affairs Department to provide emergency exit at the office of the Punjab advocate general.
Rs2 million has been allocated for this scheme and Rs15 million for the two ongoing schemes.
