Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Mahmood Khan on Wednesday inaugurated a rickshaw service for collection and disposal of solid waste from the congested old-city areas of Peshawar.

He formally handed over new machinery and vehicles costing Rs80.5 million to Water and Sanitation Service Peshawar (WSSP).

The new fleet of vehicles includes 20 three-wheeler dumpers, 18 garbage containers, four water bowser, two trucks, an excavator and four tractor shovels.

The chief minister said that his government was putting the provincial institutions on modern lines in order to address the problems of the people and also to facilitate them in efficient way. He revealed that this new system of solid waste management would soon be introduced at all divisional levels.

The inaugural ceremony of handing over new fleet of machinery to WSSP held at Hinopak Ring road Peshawar. Provincial Minister for Local Government Shehram Khan Tarakai, MNA Shaukat Ali, MPA Asif Khan, District Nazim Arbab Asim, Local Government Secretary Zahir Shah and high ups of WSSP and other relevant departments attended the ceremony.

“PTI government has converted its slogan of change into reality through sustained and dedicated efforts,” CM Mehmood said talking to the media.

Inclusion of new fleet in the solid waste management system would further improve and strengthen the cleanliness in Peshawar.

He said that the provincial government had followed the clean and green Pakistan vision of Prime Minister Imran Khan in its real sense. The government has taken the step of introducing this new fleet in the waste management system to remove all difficulties of the people of Peshawar and to provide a safe and better environment as a whole.

The CM hoped that WSSP will go all out in order to facilitate the citizen’s up-to maximum level. He also assured that his government would strive to make Peshawar a city of flowers.


The government has allocated Rs300 million in budget for WSSP to upgrade it on modern lines further. He said for the first time the people of this province twice gave opportunity to PTI for making the government in this province which became a history of this province, now it is the responsibility of this government to deliver.

Responding to a question the chief minister said that the system of local government would also be introduced in the newly merged tribal districts of erstwhile Fata and local body elections will also be hold in these new tribal districts very soon.

CM Mahmood responding to another question said that NAB has summoned him just as a witness in a case and he will cooperate in this respect. He also advised that the media should discourage false and unauthentic reporting.

He refuted the reporting of notification for rescinding for peace and reforms committee for Fata and said that the notification is in its original form, the news about of its withdrawal is false, he added.

He said that the provincial government’s committed to quality education could be gauged from the fact that provincial ministers enrolled their own children in government schools which is a crystal clear proof of change.

Separately CM Mahmood during a meeting with Asian Development Bank (ADB) assured of acquiring land for widening of the roads on tourism lines. ADB is funding the project.

During the meeting held at the CM House, Mahmood said the provincial government was working on the infrastructure development throughout the province.

He also agreed to the reconstruction and rehabilitation of roads projects initiated in collaboration with ADB directing the quarters concerned to bring the projects to the forum of Provincial Development Working Party which after approval would be communicated to the Central Development Working Party for final approval.

The meetings were participated by minister for communication and works (C&W), secretaries P&D and C&W, ADB representatives and other relevant officials.
