HYDERABAD: The Hyderabad Trauma Centre, which has remained dysfunctional for around a decade since its establishment, will be turned into a hospital for skin diseases. The centre will also be handed over to Liaquat University of Medical and Health Sciences (LUMHS), Jamshoro. Hyderabad Commissioner Muhammad Abbass Baloch told a meeting at his office in Hyderabad on Tuesday that Sindh Health Secretary has approved the centre's transfer to LUMHS which will operate it as its teaching hospital, Liaquat University Hospital. Baloch handed over the file containing the centre's SNE details to Prof Dr Bikha Ram, Vice Chancellor of LUMHS, at the meeting. The commissioner also directed the officials to remove encroachments surrounding the centre. The centre was inaugurated by Hyderabad former mayor Kanwar Naveed Jameel in October 2009. It was built near Hala Naka area at a cost of Rs10 million. The centre remained defunct all these years due to shortage of staff, equipment and machines.
