The family members of a 42-year-old man killed during a police raid protested in Jhok Utar police station limits on Sunday. They surrounded the police station, blocked roads and burnt tyres.

Four police personnel from Jhok Utar police station, including Allah Data, Iqbal, Shehbaz and Kaleemullah, raided a house on Saturday after receiving a tip-off that the tenants were selling drugs. When they reached the house, 42-year-old Ejaz Hussain and his brother Riaz Hussain were sitting in the backyard of their house along with their friends.

During the ‘raid’, one of the officials started beating Ejaz violently. He was joined by two other officials. Due to the severe injuries he sustained, Ejaz died on the spot while the police officials fled the scene.

After being informed of the incident, DPO Atif Nazir took immediate action and directed SP Investigations Tahir Mustafa and DSP Kot Chatta Wasim Ejaz to reach the spot and investigate the matter.

On the directions of the DPO, SP Investigations Tahir Mustafa assured the deceased’s family that action will be taken against the accused.

All four officials have been suspended while a murder case has been registered against them. DSP Kot Chatta Wasim Ejaz has been directed to submit a report after completing a probe. The deceased’s body has been shifted to a hospital for an autopsy.
