The Punjab government has written to the centre, seeking Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) president Shehbaz Sharif’s Islamabad residence to be declared as sub-jail.

Sources told Express News hat the provincial government reached out to the interior secretary and district authorities, asking Shehaz's house to be declared as sub-jail for the duration of National Assembly session beginning December 10.

Shehbaz Sharif arrested by NAB in Ashiyana Housing scam case

The moves comes after an accountability court in Lahore shifted Shehbaz, who is also leader of the opposition in the National Assembly, to Kot Lakhpat jail on judicial remand.

In a dramatic turn of events, the country’s top accountability watchdog had arrested the former Punjab chief minister over his alleged involvement in a multi-billion rupees Ashiana Housing Project scam.

Shehbaz was arrested inside NAB’s Lahore office where he was summoned to record his statement before a combined investigations team in connection with the Punjab Saaf Pani Company case.

Since his arrest, the opposition leader has had his remand extended multiple times. He has also attended National Assembly sessions with Ministers Enclave being declared as sub-jail.
