QUETTA: Balochistan Governor Amanullah Yasinzai has said that eradicating corruption from Balochistan is the prime duty of the provincial government, vowing that those who looted public money through corrupt practices would be brought to justice.

He was addressing a seminar arranged by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Balochistan on Thursday to mark the Anti-Corruption Day.

The governor stressed the importance of good governance and merit in all matters.

“The provincial government has been taking concrete measures to eradicate corruption from Balochistan but we can’t win the battle against the menace of corruption without collective efforts,” Yasinzai said.

NAB Balochistan Director General Muhammad Abid Javed and religious leader Dr Attaur Rehman also addressed the seminar. Meanwhile, students of various schools participated in a debate competition on the topic of corruption.

Yasinzai termed corruption as “economic terrorism” that had been damaging the country for many decades. He called upon the society to speed up its efforts against corruption.

“The future generation is an asset of Pakistan that would lead the country in future. We have to build an anti-corruption narrative among them,” he added.

The NAB DG said it was fortunate that the government had a clear vision against corruption. Moreover, the prime minister was following his one-point agenda against corruption, he said.

“With the support of the government’s anti-corruption vision, NAB is carrying forward the mission of a corruption-free Pakistan,” Javed said, adding that teachers had to play a vital role in eliminating corruption from the province.

He added that accountability and justice were the most important pillars of a prosperous society. Unfortunately, due to a flawed accountability system, Pakistan’s economic growth had halted at a certain level, he said.

Later, the governor and the DG distributed prizes among the participants of the debate competition.
