PESHAWAR:
Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Assembly Speaker Mushtaq Ghani showed the door to an official of the finance department for coming unprepared for a Public Accounts Committee (PAC) meeting.

“PAC is no joke. Officials are warned to come prepared for briefings,” he said asking the officer to leave the Assembly Hall.

He further said that the K-P assembly will not accept any negligence in dealing with matters of accountability for the public money.

Speaker Ghani told officers of respective departments to come fully prepared for answering questions at the PAC sessions otherwise action would be taken against them. “Crucial sessions like PAC are no place for non-serious people,” he said.

The speaker has also directed the finance and law secretaries to attend the assembly session for PAC on Friday (today).

Rule of law

Meanwhile, talking to a delegation of addressing oath taking ceremony of Prosecution Officers Welfare Association at the provincial assembly on Thursday, Ghani highlighted the importance of justice system.

Quoting Hazrat Ali (RA), he said that system of infidel (Kufr) might sustain but a system based on injustice was bound to fail.

Ghani, after taking oath from association’s President Zaheeruddin Babar and his cabinet, went on to express disgust on the prevailing state of justice system in the country and the province.

“No one can save that society from destruction where judges are bought and prosecution joins hands with the culprits,” Speaker Ghani said.

He said that judiciary, police and prosecution have important roles in the society. “We are breathing in Naya Pakistan today where PM Imran Khan wants rule of law,” he said.

Although the PTI government has not been able to completely eradicate corruption, it will never accept it as a norm nor give it any breathing space.

“We secured victory for PTI in the whole country on the basis of party’s performance in K-P government,” Ghani said adding that they have brought about historical changes in the province after coming into power.

Ghani said that PM Imran Khan was not hungry for power. “The opposition is talking about midterm elections, we are ready for midterm elections right now, but we will never leave to give space to thieves and plunderers,” the K-P assembly speaker said.

Imran Khan will sacrifice his power but will make Naya Pakistan by removing corruption at any cost and there will be no compromise on it, Ghani said.
