PESHAWAR:
'Rani' has been crowned as the queen on buffaloes in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) when she managed to give 20 litres of milk at a health and beauty pageant in Peshawar on Thursday.
Her owner bagged a trophy, as well as, a motorbike besides a crate of eggs to hatch and raise chickens to lay more eggs.
The K-P Livestock Department had organised the contest of buffaloes to highlight the importance of livestock as per the vision of Prime Minister Imran Khan.
The runner-up was Khatkay for yielding 17.85 litres of milk followed by Charsadda’s Ravi who secured the third place by giving 17 litres of milk.
Cattle farmers ‘milk it’ in competition
The milking competition, which the organisers said was part of PM Imran’s 100-day plan, saw 10 finalists from across the province walk the track near Shah Alam Bridge.
Peshawar’s Rani, Nowshera’s Mastani and Charsadda’s Ravi were the centre of attraction in the buffalo contest.
While Gul Sanga, Koel, Kharo and Khatkay were also the centre of attraction for livestock farmers, dairy traders and other stakeholders.
The milk festival was first major dairy event patronised by the K-P government.
Organisers said the event will help share knowledge with dairy farmers and milkmen. It will also become a forum to create awareness among dairy sector stakeholders about new trends and latest technologies.
