In a strange way of registering protest, a man climbed up a very tall electricity poll of high-tension wires in Karachi on Wednesday demanding that arrangements are made for his marriage.

Muhammad Shakir, a worker at a garment factory in Korangi’s Singer Chowrangi, threatened to take his own life by jumping off the poll if his demand was not met, Express News reported.

On citizens’ complaint, K-Electric disconnected power supply to the area and placed airbags around the poll. The disgruntled man was seen speaking to someone on his mobile phone after climbing up the poll and threw away his cellphone and wallet later on.

A large number of people had gathered to see the wannabe groom, disrupting the flow of traffic. His sister was sent through a snorkel for negotiations and after repeated assurances, he agreed to come down with the help of the rescue workers.

Some drugs were also allegedly recovered from his motorcycle.

K-Electric under fire as child loses arms to high tension wire

In August, both arms of an eight-year-old boy had to be amputated after a high-tension wire of K-Electric fell on him outside his home on the third day of Eidul Azha.

A team of doctors at Civil Hospital Karachi’s Burns Centre managed to save the child’s life after hours-long efforts.

The eight-year old boy, Muhammad Umar, was critically injured in the incident that took place in Ahsanabad, a town adjacent to Gulshan-e-Maymar on August 24. The boy promptly used his other hand to try and remove the wire, but the high voltage quickly gripped his body and caused severe burns on both the arms.
