Local govt: PTI, PML-N announce candidates for Dec 23 by-elections

Four district council seats and one tehsil council seat fell vacant after the general elections

ABBOTABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI) and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) have awarded tickets for the four district council and one tehsil council seats which fell vacant after the general elections.

Final list of contestants will be put on display soon for the by-elections to be held on December 23 as per schedule announced by the Election Commission of Pakistan. PTI parliamentary board has announced tickets for Naveed Khan (Kakul), Nabeel Khan (Shiekhulbandi) Muhammad Zaid (Namli Mera) Zulfiqar Abbasi (Bakot) and Sher Afzal (Jhangra Tehsil Council).

PML-N has nominated Waseem Abbasi (Kakul), Waseem Khan Tanoli (Shiekhulbandi), Syed Mehmood Shah (Kathwal) Malik Azhar Awan (Jhangra Tehsil council). PML-N has yet to decide on awarding tickets for Namli Mera and Bakot district council.

Both the rival parties have launched forceful campaign of their candidates for the byelections and corner meetings have started in the area. The tenure of current local governments will end after six months.
