The Supreme Court on Monday expressed its displeasure over claims made by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf's (PTI) provincial government in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) regarding reformation of the health sector in the province, Express News reported.

Plea to replicate K-P health model in Punjab

The failure by the ruling party to establish adequate waste management system in hospitals irked Chief Justice Saqib Nisar. "The party could not even deliver after being in five years in power," said Justice Nisar during the hearing.

K-P officials apprised the court that the provincial government has prepared a survey to tackle the problem and a sum of Rs200 million has been allocated to install proper sewage systems in hospitals. "The job shall be executed by June," authorities told the bench.

K-P needs more, better health staff

In addition, the chief justice also sought a monthly report regarding progress on the matter and criticised the health minister for not appearing in court.

In September, the K-P Health Ministry constituted a whopping 27-member Health Policy Advisory Council (HPAC). The council includes members from the government, development partners, health-related agencies of the United Nations and non-government organisations.
