The Punjab Governor House has provided the following response to the story, “Governor asks VC to re-appoint disgraced teacher”, published in the June 7, 2011, edition of The Express Tribune:
“There is no order verbal or recorded to indicate or infer that the governor/chancellor passed any directions to ask the VC to restore the dismissed faculty member. Neither any inference to such effect could be made from contents of the meeting notice, nor orders, verbal or written, [that have been] passed by the governor/chancellor bear any such directive.
The report falsely alleges that ‘the governor told the vice chancellor that he should restore the disgraced teacher or the governor would do so himself in his capacity as chancellor.’
The orders passed by the governor are reproduced as under: ‘The parties have been heard at length and the hearing has been concluded. However, both the parties may file their written rejoinder. They shall exchange their notes so as to be aware of the submissions made by them and to make any further submissions in writing, if they so desire, within a fortnight, whereafter, if necessary, further hearing in the case would be notified. Else the case stands reserved for orders.’
