ISLAMABAD:
The Supreme Court on Friday sought replies from the interior secretary and home secretaries of all the provinces regarding the supply and usage of drugs in educational institutions, within 10 days. A three-judge bench headed by Chief Justice of Pakistan Mian Saqib Nisar also directed the inspectors general of police of all provinces and territories to submit progress reports to the court on a monthly basis. During Friday’s hearing on drugs being sold on campus, CJP Nisar remarked that there were some black sheep in the police department who were involved in the selling of drugs in schools and colleges and that senior officials must take action against them. Punjab Police‘s Operations Deputy Inspector General (DIG) told the court that they had recently registered as many as 50 cases after recovering drugs from educational institutions in Lahore alone. He, however, stopped short of holding the administration of any school responsible for the presence of drugs on campuses. The CJP remarked that he had seen girls taking ice — crystal methamphetamine — and other drugs in colleges, which left a question mark on the performance of the authorities concerned.
