IDEAS2018: Air chief stresses need for research, innovation

Mujahid Anwar says air and space power today has evolved into a commonly recognised source of national strength

The Pakistan Air Force (PAF) held a seminar on self-reliance through research, innovation and development at the "IDEAS2018" event in Karachi on Thursday.

The head of PAF Air Chief Marshal Mujahid Anwar was amongst the keynote speakers for the seminar, with Air Marshal Shahid Akhtar Alvi, Deputy Chief of Air Staff (Training) delivering the inaugural address.

Underscoring the importance of research and innovation, the Air Chief said, "Air and space power today has evolved into a commonly recognised source of national strength."

He added that to this end, research, innovation and development play a vital role.

"Indeed, forums like this are rare opportunities to link together and share ideas, in addition to benefiting from each other's experiences."

He said that owing to the need for multi-faceted benefits and combined operations, the PAF has established a hub for advanced training activities at the PAF Airpower Centre of Excellence (ACE).

"This institute will provide an opportunity to not only PAF, but also friendly air forces to test and hone the skills of fighting elements through various training courses and exercises," the Air Chief said.

Seven speakers spoke at the seminar including Nigerian Air Chief, as well as guest speakers from the Turkish and Sri Lankan air forces.

The PAF aircraft also presented an enthralling airshow at Karachi's Sea-view beach.
