Netflix Inc, on Tuesday, revealed that it is planning to adapt celebrated children’s author Roald Dahl’s books as animation series. And you know what that means: our favourite childhood bedtime stories that we all grew up on, including the likes of Matilda and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, will be coming to life on the silver screen!
The streaming company said it has signed an agreement with the Roald Dahl Story Co, but did not disclose the financial terms, reported Reuters. The other titles include The BFG, The Twits and Charlie and the Great Glass Elevator, Netflix said in a statement, adding that the production for the upcoming series will begin sometime during 2019.
The company, which had kept aside $8 billion to create original content in 2018, has already spent $6.9 billion on TV shows and movies by the end of its third quarter.
Netflix had 137 million subscribers to its movie and TV streaming service worldwide, at the end of September this year.
Dahl was a British novelist, short story writer, poet, screenwriter, and fighter pilot. His books have sold more than 250 million copies worldwide. He was born in Wales to Norwegian immigrant parents and even served in the Royal Air Force during the Second World War.
