The government did not inherit an ideal situation, we face worse financial challenges, said Punjab Senior Minister Abdul Aleem Khan on Saturday.

He expressed these views while speaking to different delegations who called on him on Saturday. There is a lot of room for improvement and the present leadership is moving forward with concrete planning.

A new system of local bodies system will empower districts financially and administratively. The common man’s problems will be solved at a local level. In urban areas, neighbourhood councils will work independently while in rural areas village councils and a ‘panchaiyat’ system will be introduced. Around 30% of the Annual Development Programmed will be allocated to bring prosperity and progress to each area, he detailed.

Instead of three, there will be two tiers in the local government system, he added.

The minister said that party workers and the common man have great expectations from the present government. Due to the corruption of the ‘Nawaz league’ we are compelled to reduce our Annual Development Programme. There is no money for on-going projects and subsidies, he lamented.

A delegation headed by Provincial Minister Mian Khalid Mahmood briefed the minister about the problems and issues being faced by Sheikhupura district. The people are waiting for a new local bodies system, they want to root out evil at all levels, Mahmood said.
