Anti-encroachment operation: 1,000 kanals of land retrieved from illegal occupants
Massive constructions, plazas, hotels, showrooms specifically targeted
ISLAMABAD:
Capital Development Authority (CDA) and Islamabad District Administration (ICT) operation against illegal encroachments on the right of way of G.T. Road remained steadfast on Friday. During the operation, which has continued on for the last four days, more than 1,000 kanals of encroached state land was retrieved from illegal occupants.
On the fourth day of operation, illegal encroachments from one more kilometer on the right of way of G.T. Road, from Sangjani towards Tarnol, were completely demolished and the illegal occupants encroaching 298 kanals of state land, vacated the area. The operation was participated by entire staff and officers of Enforcement Directorate, relevant officers and staff of ICT, National Highways Authority (NHA), officers of Planning Wing of CDA, Land and Rehabilitation Directorate, Revenue staff ICT. While heavy contingent of police was deployed and in order to, cater to any unpleasant situation Counter Terrorism Force and Anti-Riot Unit of ICT Police with the backup of Rangers were also deployed during the operation.
Furthermore, heavy machinery of MPO Directorate and other formations of CDA were also utilised during the operation in addition to machinery excavators provided by the NHA. Some 270 illegal shops, 10 hotels, 20 sheds, 15 stairs, 50 rooms, 15 wash rooms, nine kiosks, five service station, one weigh station, 25 boundary walls and 15 gates constructed illegally were demolished. Moreover, 135 heavy machinery including vehicles were displaced and 230 kanals of encroached state land has been retrieved from illegal occupants.
It is pertinent to mention here that during the anti-encroachment operation being carried out at G.T Road, massive constructions including plazas, showrooms, markets and boundary walls constructed on several kanals of state land are being targeted. This operation is being carried out against the elements that have been occupying state land illegally and remain a hindrance in eradication of encroachments from the right of way of G.T Road. However, in accordance with the policy of the present government, all encroachments and illegal constructions on state land are being demolished without any discrimination. Action against such influential elements will continue without any fear or favour. Moreover, this operation was conducted after the demarcation carried out by the Revenue Staff of CDA, ICT and NHA.
