2018 was the best and worst year: Janhvi Kapoor
Actor finally opens up about mother Sridevi’s death, Bollywood debut and more
Janhvi Kapoor's mother and veteran Indian actor Sridevi breathed her last earlier this year, while she was still filming her Bollywood debut, Dhadak. Not only did the news come as a shock to the late artist’s fans and contemporaries, but was also the biggest setback for her family too.
Janhvi and her sister Khushi have never publicly spoken about Sridevi’s passing. However, during a recently held session at the International Film Festival of India, the 21-year-old called 2018 as both the “worst and best experience” of her life.
Jahnvi said her personal growth has been tremendous and she has come out stronger in trying times. “I mean personal growth, I don’t know about artistic. This year brought me both the worst and the best experience of my life. It’s a little strange. Our family is now united, so that is very big thing for me,” The Indian Express quoted her as saying.

“But whatever happened, that too was a tragedy. We are still in shock, so we haven’t been able to process it properly. I’m really thankful for all the love that we have received and I got a chance to work, which is a big thing for me. I got a chance to make my parents proud, which is most important.”
Janhvi said the films that her father Boney Kapoor called the ‘Golden Era’ of Hindi cinema are way ahead of our time. “I feel we have got tangled into a trap, a commercial one. In the past, there was way more freedom to tell a story.”
She acknowledged yesteryear films such Mr. and Mrs. ‘55 for celebrating the essence of feminism back in the day. “Madhubala has done such a beautiful job in the film. But more than that, it was the concept that the film raised. It dealt with feminism. Madhubala ji’s character was so forward thinking.” Calling Madhubala her favourite, Janhvi stated, “I think she is not given that much credit for her acting talent because she was so beautiful. But no one could do the work that she has done.” She also named Dilip Kumar and Guru Dutt as her favourite actors of all time.
