A man's Facebook friendship cost him dearly after a girl he added allegedly robbed him upon meeting him in Punjab's Sargodha district, Express News reported on Wednesday.

The victim, Asim Bilal, who hails from Sargodha, had 'innocently' added a girl on Facebook –  the popular social media platform.

After accepting the request, she asked Bilal to meet her in Sargodha's Phularwan area.

When Bilal reached the meeting spot, the girl's relatives not only thrashed him, but also robbed him.

Later, the relatives fled the scene unchallenged.

Bilal, who has now registered a complaint with the local police, said that the girl had hatched the plot to attack and rob him.

On November 14, an American woman tied the knot with a Sialkot man after befriending him on Facebook.

The woman also embraced Islam before beginning her marital life.
