Victim’s family refuse to take body, demand action against accused

FAISALABAD: A woman, who was allegedly set ablaze by her husband and in-laws, breathed her last at a hospital in Faisalabad, Express News reported.

According to details, Kiran, a resident of Jhang Bazaar, was allegedly set on fire by her husband Shamim and in-laws over an argument on November 19. The victim had suffered critical burn injuries to different parts of her body and was shifted to Allied Hospital’s burns unit for treatment. However, she succumbed to injuries at the hospital on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, the victim’s family refused to take the body in protest. They said that they would continue to protest till the police take action against the accused. Earlier, the police registered a case against the victim’s husband Shamim, fatherin-law Muhammad Akram, mother-in-law Surraiya Bibi and brother-in-law Waseem.

Jhang Bazaar Police Station SHO Abid Hussain said that during investigations, the victim’s five-year-old son revealed that Kiran had set herself ablaze after an argument with her husband. He added that the police had arrested Shamim and are interrogating him. He said other accused in the case had managed to secure bail from the court.
